Passionflower Handspun Yarn

This was a large amount of merino wool that I handpainted recently. There were actually three different handpainted merino braids that went into the making of this amazing 3-ply yarn.

It’s times like this that I miss my old circular sock machine. This would make up as some beautiful socks.

These were the braids drying in the bathroom. There are also some mulberry silk, too.

The braids, or coils as I call them. I don’t braid them because I feel that it could damage or snag the wool. I’m all about minimal impact to the fiber.  Each of these weight 5.5oz, or 550 grams. Most indie dyers do them in 4-ounce increments because it’s a good weight for yarn for a pair of socks. I need more. 🙂

I’ve shown this many times before, this is how I portion the fiber for spinning. Each of these little fiber love bundles takes less than ten minutes each. I know that if I’ve got a few minutes before heading out, or I want to watch a 2-hour movie, I know approximately how many I should take.

That’s the silk bundle from the exact same dye session in the foreground.

Plying the three bobbins onto one bobbin. This is going to be a LOT of yarn!

It’s a pretty three-ply:
