When I start working on a quilt, I tend to make sample blocks. This is where I test out things like needles, types of thread, batting, backings, etc. This is where I can see how it’s going to work out. I’ll even throw the sample in the washing machine at the laundromat the see how the colors hold. When all is said and done, I’ll make things like coasters, placemats and pillows. (Or, tote bags, vests, etc.) The filling is quality stuffing from the fabric store that holds up well to the rigors of daily use.
