A new-to-us project is dehydrator orange slice ornaments. We got some large oranges at the market, washed them, gave ’em a pat dry, and sliced them on the mandolin. The slices were spread out on the plastic sheets in the food dehydrator. The temp was set at 139 and they were left in over night. Wow, the aroma of drying oranges slices really helped fill the apartment with some citrus cheer.
We also threw slices of two lemons and one lime while we were at it.
The color really was retained, which made us so happy to see. Last year, the air-dried slices turned black. We’re not sure if it was “natural”, mold or whatever. But these slices…
They turned out SO well, and, using the mandolin really did the trick for consistency.
