Before actually spinning the hand painted merino wool top, I pre-draft it, as shown above. This gives me the opportunity to make sure that the fiber isn’t matted, full of neps or other debris. It also makes spinning smoother and faster. So, a little time ahead of the game for prep really pays off in the long run.
All of the prepped fiber is split into bobbin piles for the bobbins. In this case, a two-ply, so, two bobbins.
As mentioned earlier, spinning goes so much faster and the resulting ply is very uniform.
